New beginnings

I have long thought of sharing some of my most awkward and embarrassing stories on a blog such as this. That sounds a bit backwards, now that I think about it.  Then again, I’m sure that hearing about the experiences of others would have been incredibly reassuring as I was growing up. For some reason things like menstruation, sex, birth control, and the like are taboo. Of course, now you can go “incognito” and google to your heart’s content. But the internet and I grew up together, and I never would have dreamed of asking the internet how to put in a tampon or whether there were different kinds of tampon applicators (spoiler alert: there are!). And google still didn’t tell me if I was “ready” for sex, which always seemed confusing and kinda scary (you put the thing in the other thing, but, like, instructions please?).

I don’t have all the answers, but I hope that sharing some of my experiences will be reassuring to others. Reassuring because some experiences and feelings are universal. Or because at least you weren’t in my shoes!

This blog has been a long time in the making, and I hope to update with some sense of regularity—hopefully more regular than my period! (But that’s a story for another day…)
